~Sandee*Stuck in Wonderland~

I'm Sandra or Sandee. :D I am addicted to books (as well as my book bfs). As much as reading, I also like to write. I write whenever I am inspired and right now I am very much inspired. I am actually a slow reader now because of work and being a single mom but I still try to get as much books on my hand as I can. HOW I RATE THE BOOKS I READ 5 stars : I am head over heals in love with this books. It left me speechless! Highly recommended.  4 stars : I really liked it. There was so many things to love about it. Would recommend it. 3 stars : I liked it. It kept me reading. 2 stars : There were good things here and there but I didn't like it much. 1 stars : Oh No! I did not just read that. Epic Fail. or it could also mean DNF (Did not finish the book) It didn't have much to go on for me. Feel free to leave me comments and book recommendations because I totally love them. :)

Opal - Jennifer L. Armentrout JENNIFER ARMENTROUT. YOU ARE PURE EVIL!

image

image

Why would you intentionally do something like this!!

image

Okay... That was an exaggeration I didn't really hate OPAL. But it made my heart ache a lot especially towards the ending.

I was reading and then on the last chapter I was like...

image

I thought maybe there was just something wrong with the copy that I purchased. Wishfully thinking that the ending did not end the way it did, I checked other reviews. After reading the reviews and realizing that that was really the ending... I went balistic!!

image

Seriously, that ending...

image

I hated the f*cking cliffhanger. It was outrageous. Now I have to wait a few more months before I'll be able to get over that freakin' cliffhanger ending!!

image

Anyways, before I go on and babble about how amazing MY DAEMON (I am overly possessive. Haha) is here on Opal. I'd just like to give you a gist on what happened here.

Dawson's back.
Adam's dead.
Dee's still angry.
Daemon's being protective.
Katy's getting worried.

Dawson has not been the same since he's came back.
He desperately wants to get Beth back since he knew the DOD still has her.
Daemon and Katy would not allow Dawson to just get himself caught again just to be with Beth.
Both of them made a promise to Dawson that they'll help him get Beth back.
Eventhough they knew it was going to be hard, they promised him that they'll do whatever it takes.
Dawson was not the only problem though.
Blake made a comeback with a proposal.
Help him get Chris out and he'll tell them everything he knows about where they are holding Beth captive.
No one trusts Blake but he's the only one who could tell them about where Beth is.

Was working with Blake the right choice?
What will be the consequences of their plans to infiltrate the DOD's hideout?
Will there be more deaths?

This book threw me over the edge.

There are just no words, I tell you. No words to explain how awesome Opal was. If you liked Obsidian and Onyx then you'll definitely go crazy over Opal. Whatever Obsidian and Onyx lacked, it has been completed in Opal. I mean seriously, I just can't get over it.

image

I didn't really like Katy in Onxy but in Opal I liked her all over again. She made mistakes and she wants to own up to it. I mean yeah she was still stubborn despite Daemon's constant warning but she just wouldn't listen to his reasons, that sort of stubborness. She cried a few times but I understood why. She was overwhelmed by what she can do and that was understandable.

Let me get to the good part. DAEMON. MY DAEMON.

image

Seriously DAEMON take me now!!

I just couldn't get over how I saw all the sides of Daemon here. The douchie-side, the sweet-side, the overprotective-side, the smartass-side gaaaahhh. All Daemon's hidden and known side of him will be on here so this is a must read. I posted this picture before in another review but I kind of think he'll look perfect as Daemon too. :)

image

Oh dear! I think I failed to mention how insanely cute Daemon and Katy was here. I seriously couldn't stop myself from grinning like crazy every time they had their alone time or they were bickering about something nonsensical but I loved it anyways. I think its one of the reasons why they are a cool couple.

This series is only getting better and better. Some series actually become dragging and boring after book 3 but this one? I highly doubt that, especially after that freakin' cliffhanger, i am definitely looking forward to book 4.

I want to cry so hard because I so want to get the next book now! This is what cliffhangers does to me!!

image

Although I am still angry that the ending was like this, I'd still gave it a 5. Why? Because other than the KillJOY ending, the rest of the book was just awesome. The story, the pacing, the development was just great. It was well thought off.

Sooo.. Do I love it?

HELL YEA I DO! ^_____^

image

Looking forward to more DAEMON Katy and Daemon on the next books!
Time Between Us - Tamara Ireland Stone "I don't think I can go back to a life without you."
My face goes blank and I just stare at him. " What are you saying?"

"I'm saying...I'm completely in love with you. And...I'm wondering...what if I didn't leave, after all?

Loving someone from a distance is hard.
What's even harder is when distance is not the only thing that is keeping you apart.
But also TIME.

Anna was not expecting to meet the guy she saw at the track on one of her classes.
Bennett was the new boy at school and she was positive that he was the same guy she saw at the track earlier that day.
When they asked Bennett, he denies he was ever at the track and that he has not seen Anna before.
After that incident, Bennett started to distance himself from Anna.
Anna always wondered what she did to Bennett to make him act that way towards her.
During one of Anna's shift at their bookstore, a robber came in and threatened to hurt her if she doesn't give the stores earnings but out of the blue Bennett grabs her and the next minute they were at the park.
Bennett confessed that he was a time traveller looking for his sister and that he was from the year 2012.
Even though they both know that Bennett could not stay, they developed feelings for each other.
Aside from his ability to time travel, Bennett was still keeping something from Anna.
A secret that might change both their futures forever.

Time Between Us is a sweet memorable story about two teenager who fell in love in the most unusual circumstance. It was simple but sincere. The plot was simple and easy to follow but the twist in the end is what really caught me. I was expecting a sad, miserable ending probably like the Time Traveler's wife but I was happy that it didn't end that way.

I honestly loved the cover of this book. Just looking at the cover and without even reading the synopsis I would have picked this book up and read it. That is the power of a good cover. Sometimes it backfires though because sometimes good covers don't have good contents but this was not one of them.

Anna was one of those characters you'll love dearly. Of course, there are times when I was mad at her for forcing Bennett to do some things he doesn't want to do but honestly in the end appreciating her for what she has done. I like Anna because she thinks and she wasn't the typical girl who gets depressed because the guy leaves but she wasn't like that. I appreciate her being the strong girl that she was.

Bennett. I loved Bennett. Don't you just love the name Bennett? I surely do and when you read about him you'll see why. I read a lot of reviews mentioning that this book was kind of Twilight-ish but I couldn't really see that. Bennett was nothing like Edward. I like Edward too but no he wasn't as possessive and overprotective as Edward. Bennett was the type of guy you'll like not because he is smoking hot like aheemm Daemon but because he was sweet and thoughtful and yeah cute.

The additional characters like Emma and Justin were good additions to the story. I kind of felt that this book will not be as effective without their story.

I would like to say that I liked the chemistry between Anna and Bennett. For those of you expecting any hot steamy scenes from this book then I'd like to warn you that there is none of that here. There are a lot of sweet scenes though that will wish you were back in highschool. I loved the moment where Anna and Bennett were on the beach. I won't tell you which beach though. Hahaha.

image<<br/>
I did notice some parts that confused me and hoped it was better explained. Like regarding his missing sister. It wasn't thoroughly explained as to how she just appeared and what he did to find her. Also the ending, I wasn't exactly thrilled about it either. I mean I like Happily-Ever-After endings but it just left me confused.

But still I'm going to give this book 5 stars. Why? Because this book was very well written and I'd have to say one of my favorite time-travelling book after Timeless. If you liked Time Traveller's wife, then this is it's YA Edition only way way better.

Onyx - Jennifer L. Armentrout Daemon Black = PERFECTION

image

Merged review:

W.O.W!

image

Seriously. I don't know how to start reviewing this. I just couldn't believe I made myself wait for this long. I am such an I.D.I.O.T. Daemon baby, I wish you could forgive me for being away from you for so long!!

ONYX was just...

image

I can't even begin to explain how I felt after I read Onyx. There is just really no words to describe how unbelievably spectacular the experience was. It just have everything in it. It was just so damn PERFECT. I thought Obsidian was already AMAZING but Onyx just went above and beyond AMAZING. It was just PERFECT.

Katy was trying hard to stay away from Daemon but Daemon was making it so hard for her to do so.

Daemon wanted to prove to Katy that he would do anything for her.

Katy was just dead-set on her belief that all of the stuff that Daemon has been pulling to get her to fall for him was because of the connection that they with each other he healed her.

Out of the blue, a mysterious new guy comes in.

Katy thought Blake was the one who'll be able to make her feel normal. But was his intentions clean like what she wants herself to believe? Or does he have secrets of his own that might endanger herself and the people she care about.

First off, I would like to say again that this book was IMMACULATE. I couldn't think of any bad thing to say about it unless you count the ending. It was a total cliffhanger! But it's not something I'm mad about anyway because I don't think I want it to have ended any other way.

Okay so I'll have to start first with Katy. I liked her. She was actually one of the best book heroine I've read so far, that is in Obsidian. But in Onyx, I still like her but majority of the time (let's say around 90%) i wanted to strangle her kill her because she was getting to annoying. I mean I get her reasons really but what actually pissed me off about her is her lack of trust in Daemon. I mean you wouldn't trust a guy who saved your freakin' ass for how many times but you are willing to trust a guy you barely know?

image

For me that's just plain stupid. I'm sorry but that was just a big NO for me. There were a lot of times I wanted to pull her hair and b*tch-slap her until she wakes up. Good thing she does wake up and realizes what a moron she has been not only to Daemon but to everyone else around her.

Okay so let's talk about my favorite part of the book.

There's DAEMON with all his ILLUSTROUS ALPHA MALENESS.

image

I loved Daemon in Obsidian but in Onyx I became OBSESSED. I would willingly become his slave if he asks me to. I'll be more than happy to make sweet little alien babies with him. It sounds sick but hell yeah I wanna be with Daemon in all ways possible.

image

Daemon has not been the greatest guy in Obsidian. In Onyx, he made me fall head-over-heels crazy, madly, in love with him. You'll get to see the side of him you only caught a glimpse of in Obsidian. He will be his usual jerky self but then again you'll also see his sweet, protective side that would make you swoon for him over and over again. You'll see that even though Daemon shows everyone what a tough guy he is, he shows his vulnerable side here which made him more endearing to me.

I'll have to stop talking about Daemon now because I could go on forever on how freaking amazing he is.

Okay so the twists that Onyx had was nothing compared to Obsidian or Shadows. I kind of liked how things built up from where the last book ended to where this book started.

Let's talk about the new character Blake who Daemon saw as a competition for Katy's affection. But seriously there was NO competition. Come on Daemon? Really? You think Blake was a competition. Not a part of him could compare to you, please remember that? Katy was just being stupid agreeing to be around that guy. I wouldn't want to tell you more about Blake because I'll give too much away. All I could tell you though is that I really want to say to him,

image

I hated the guy. Right from the moment I read about him. Well I'll let you be the judge of that when you read about him.

Anyways, this book will really leave you literally BEGGING for more. There is just too much awesomeness in this book. I mean the whole flow of the story made sense to me. I didn't like Katy being stupid but I guess it also worked in a way because it kind of forged a way to make Katy and Daemon's relationship even closer.

Romance, action and suspense was not the only thing to watch out for in Onyx. There will also be drama. It won't be a real tear-jerker but a part of it will really really make you feel sad. Just thinking about it makes me sad again.

ONYX one f*cking rollercoaster ride!

image

And I think its safe to say NOW that it has become my favorite series of all time! This series is so unbelievable. So for those of you who haven't read it yet, "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR?" This is a seriously awesome book and you are so wasting your time not reading it.

To end this outrageously long review, I want to share one of my favorite *infuriatingly* cute scene in Onyx:

"You... you're not going to believe me." He pressed another sweet and tender kiss against my lips. "But I want to do this right."

I started to smile. "I doubt you could do this wrong."

Daemon's lips stretched into a smug half grin. "Yeah, I'm not talking about that. That I will do perfectly, but I want to... I want us to have what normal couples have."

This just took my breath away. It was like I died and went to heaven. ^^
I loved every minute of this!

J.A.W.D.R.O.P.P.I.N.G!

Full review to follow!
Oxford Whispers - Marion Croslydon I totally adored this book.
It contained the right mix of everything.
It not only has mystery and suspense but it also just the right of romance in it.

Oxford Whispers is not what I have expected. It over-exceeded my expectations to tell you honestly. I learned from experience that not all fancy covers and intriguing goodreads summary would end up good when you read it. But this book, well it not only has a good cover and a good synopsis. After reading the book, you'll feel that you didn't waste your time reading it. This book has substance which is why it was definitely worth reading.

Madison LeBon may look like an ordinary girl but she's not. She's from a family that posseses power that will later consume them. Consume them meaning, either they go crazy or kill themselves or whatever bad things that might happen. Knowing this, Madison tried to steer away from that kind of future so moved to Oxford to study history.

Funny thing is, it seems that her heritage didn't really want to let her go. On her history class, she then encounters the painting that will turn her life around. She then gets visions of the woman and the man on the painting. She then realizes that no matter how hard she tries to run away from her destiny, she'll need to face it one way or the other or she might really end up like the other women in her family.

Phew.

This book is a real gem. It is not every day you'll find a book that is this unique. I intially thought it would be somewhat like Darker Still(another one of my favorites) but then after reading more I realized that although both dealt with paintings that was where the similarity stops.

One of the things I loved about this book was the setting. It was very vivid that you could almost feel you are walking with Madison in Oxford. The author made sure that you get the feel of the surrounding.

Another good thing about it is how well the historical aspect of the book has been researched. I loved the fact that such a painting really exist and how believable Ms. Croslydon incorporated the story about Sara and Robert as well as Madison's and Rupert's. It was just so well thought of.

I liked the characters. Madison was a pretty good female lead for me because she knew what she must do. At first, she was afraid but then after some time she realized she can't run away forever. Rupert was the perfectly-imperfect type of male character. You fall in love with him not because he was gorgeous and rich and stuff. You fall in love because he was all that but at the same time he was flawed.

One thing that did bother me was the pacing. I really thought there were times that I wish some parts were just not included but I guess those parts make the book more interesting.

The deal-sealer for this book for me was the twist towards the end. The bad guy was not the one who I was really expecting it to be. I thought it was but damn it surprised me that I was so wrong by a mile!

All in all, it was a fantastic read. It is a must read for New Adult readers or Mature YA-PNR readers. Why? Because there are some scenes not suited for younger YA readers but more for mature-YA or NA readers so just a caution. Also for those who wants a PNR book with a historical twist in it, this book is definitely for you.
Choices (Choices, #1) - Annie Brewer “Do not be afraid. Look fear in the face and say, "fuck you" and move on.”

Gracie has to make a choice.

At 17, she got pregnant by her quarterback boyfriend Nick.

She told Nick but he bailed on her.

She was forced to make a decision that was supposed to be too early for her to make.

She decided to keep the baby.

Being a single mom was going to be hard and she was aware of that.

What she wasn’t expecting was meeting Carter. The older hot, sexy, totally drool-worthyand more mature guy who was there for Gracie when she needed it most.

Just when things were going well with Gracie and Carter, Nick turns up and confessed he wants Gracie back.

Aside from keeping the baby, Gracie will now have to make another choice.

Will she choose to Carter who has been with her when she needed it the most or will she choose to forgive Nick and try to be a happy family?

First off, I'd like to thank Annie for giving me the opportunity to review this book. I am sincerely thankful for the chance she has given me to read and review this.

I love books that deals with real issues. Choices is one of those books. It deals with teenage pregancy something that isn't really new to me because I experienced it first hand. It is a sensitive topic and I liked how Annie touched the subject without being too preachy.

image

It reminded my of Juno, one of my favorite film of all time but of course the outcome was very different.

image

I thought Gracie was a great character. I felt her struggles because I have been in her place. The only difference was that she had hot GQ model-like Carter and I didn't. I was totally jealous of that. Hahaha. I wish I had a Carter that would have backed me up when I went through something like that.

Okay back to Gracie! As I said, I understood what Gracie went through. At 17, she made a decision of keeping the baby and I would have give her kudos to that. A lot would opt to have it adopted or have it aborted. It's a sad reality now a days. But Gracie owned up to her mistake and faced the consequences. The popular kids bullied her because she got pregnant early but she didn't care.

image

She knew there were people who truly cared about her and she doesn't give a f*ck on what they said. Nick, however, was a different story.

image

Nick was an a**hole to my eyes immediately. I hated the fact that even though he loved Gracie, he couldn't be man enough to face his responsibilities. Man! I was so mad at him when he was talking to Gracie on the football field. I wanted to massacre him! I mean I understand he's scared because a lot was expected from him by his mother but his actions was totally not acceptable. This was exactly the same reason why my ex-boyfriend left me. He wasn't man enough to live up to his responsibilities. He was a coward. And seriously, I hope all guys like him rot in hell!

Let's stop talking about the a**hole and start talking about Mr.Right. Carter.

image

I seriously loved Carter immediately. He was the guy that should have been Nick. I mean he has his share of mistakes but he changed. He was the kind of person you could depend on. Maybe it was because he was a little older than Gracie and Nick but still he was the type of guy I'd take any day. And I just freakin' wish I was as lucky as Gracie to have someone like him.

Despite all the insults and the hurt Gracie had been through, she had all the support. She has her family, her friend Meg and Mason and of course Carter. At first, she was all mopey and sad but she grew up. She had to not only for herself but for her baby. She had to mature and make a decision not only for herself but also for her baby.

I really loved Gracie and Carter. It started with friendship and then bossomed into something else. It was a little too fast for me but then again we have two more books to find out what happens to Gracie and Carter and yeah yeah Nick too.

A round of applause for Annie's second book. I haven't read her first one but I'll try to get it when I can. It was a heartwarming story about a girl who made a choice and stuck to it and a guy who was willing to be the person she could lean on.

Terra - Gretchen Powell This book just left my mouth hanging open!
I couldn’t believe it was over.
Geez! I was so hooked!
It’s not every day that someone who doesn’t really like dystopia likes a dystopian book.
This is one of those times.

image

See! Even Jennifer Lawrence thinks so!

When Ms. Powell asked me to review her book I was a bit worried. I was a bit worried that I might not like it since it was dystopian. Why don’t I like dystopian books? Well it’s because they give me a picture of what might happen to us in the near future (hopefully not though). Why did I agree to read it? Because I thought it was really worth a shot. I really loved the synopsis in Goodreads and I thought to myself “Why not?” I was very happy I did. I was very happy I didn’t listen to the warning lights in my head telling me to not read the book because it’s dystopian/post-apocalyptic.

What’s so great about Terra?

Loads!

image

I’m not just saying this because the author sent me the book in exchange for a review but because the book was really good. I really enjoyed the simplicity of the writing and how very descriptive it was when it came to how hard life was being a terrestrial in X-16 (it’s the place where they live) and also how different life is for the skydwellers.

Anyhow, Terra is told in the POV of our main character Terra. Terra was forced to become independent early because she had to take care of her younger brother Mica. Their mother passed away early and their father (who was a former skydweller) just packed up and left without warning leaving Terra and Mica alone in X-16. The conflict started when Terra found a weird device as she was scavenging the forests. She then surrendered it to have it converted to credits and she unexpectedly got more credits that she hoped for which actually caused her to want to get more of those stuff. So she didn’t trust her instincts to not scavenger for more scraps for a while. She went to get some more, got into trouble and then ended up meeting mysterious Adam who got left behind by his crew and who is also harbouring a very important secret.

This was very new to me actually. I mean the whole dystopian feel wasn’t but the story itself was different. There was still a division of the rich and poor people just like in the Hunger Games and here the distinction is very obvious: if you’re a skydweller, you’re rich but if you’re a terrestrial you’re poor. But it’s not only that. There are a whole lot more. There was the lack of technology and why they were prohibited too much technology and why it was such a big deal when Terra found that broken machine. There were a lot of secrets and a lot of mystery that I wasn’t expecting actually. I actually thought it was just pure dystopian but I was so darn wrong. It was so unexpected. It left me absolutely speechless.

The characters were likeable. I liked Terra even though she was too stubborn for her own good. She also has a smart mouth. She is annoying sometimes but not too much that I hated her. In cases like this it’s okay for the main character to be annoying because it’s not too much. One thing I loved about her is her love for her brother. I know it will remind you of another dystopian book that almost everyone knows but I’ll have to disappoint you and say that this book is NOTHING like the Hunger Games. They are both dystopian books, yes, and they both love their sibling but I think that is where the similarity stops. I think Terra would kinda look like this girl. I couldn’t find a celebrity that would fit her perfectly in my mind.

image

Did I already talk about Adam? I don’t think so. I won’t tell you much about Adam because if I do, I’ll end up revealing more about him than I should and that is not going to be so nice. Hahaha. Anyhow, I liked Adam, how he is mature and but a little reckless too. He is my type of guy. I just didn’t like that he kept it a secret too long but he was right though about Terra assuming what he was. Hahaha. Jeezzzz. I don’t want to talk anymore or I’ll end up a spoiler. Anyway, I kind of think Adam would look somewhat like this with blond hair and blue cerulean eyes and all.

image

Mica (Terra’s brother) was so good. I liked how he was so smart and understanding but also a pain-in-the-butt sometimes. I think his character works just fine in the book and I hope to see more of him on the next books.

Some dystopian books focus more on the romance rather than the dystopian theme itself; this book was not one of them. I mean yeah there was a bit of romance (sadly it felt a little insta-love to me but I liked it still) but it wasn’t really the main focus of the book for me. I am not sure if everyone will agree with me but yeah I didn’t really feel much of the connection and chemistry until towards the end. The romance was just an added bonus for me.

Lastly, the last few chapters of this book just caught me off guard. Just when I thought it was going to be the ending it turns out it wasn’t yet. Geeez! I really can’t wait for the next book! I want to get it in my hands already so I’ll know what will happen next. I seriously want to know if the evil plans will push through or if there are more twists along the way. I want to know everything!

Was this an awesome debut?
image

I would have to say thank you to Ms. Powell for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book. It did not in any way affect my review and rating of this book. If you don’t believe me, I suggest you all go read the book yourself so you’ll find out. ^^,

PRE-REVIEW:

I seriously fell in love with this book.

image

I read this book not knowing what was in it.
Imagine my surprise when I get more than what I thought I was going to get.
There was just surprise after surprise!
Damn this was so good for a debut!

Review to follow.
Slammed (Slammed, #1) - Colleen Hoover “I got schooled this year
by
a
boy.

A boy that I'm seriously, deeply, madly, incredibly, and undeniably in love with.
And he taught me the most important thing ofall...

To put the emphasis
On life.

Slammed is one of those books that will leave you with thoughts after you finished reading.
It made me realize a lot of things.
It made me think of how life is short.
It made me realize how much every moment counts.
It made me realize how a person can make a difference.

THE GIST

Layken (or Lake) and her family had to move to Michigan.
Her father just passed away and her mother said she had a better job offer in Michigan so they moved.
Everything just happened so fast.
Lake wasn’t ready for any of this.
Lake felt like she left a part of herself in Texas.
First day in Michigan, she met Will.
Will was literally the Boy Next Door.
He lived next door with his brother.
He was slightly older than Lake (he’s 21) and he’s the legal guardian of his brother.
Lake and Will had a good start.
They went out and had fun.
Will introduced Lake to Slam poetry which she instantly loved.
Just when Lake thought things were starting to go her way, the unexpected happened.
Just when Lake and Will started to get closer to each other, reasons for them for them to stay apart resurfaced.

FIRST IMPRESSION

If my GR friends could literally shove this book in my face I’m sure they would have done it. Hahaha.
This is what I think they look like when I started reading it:

image
This book was recommended to me *by a bunch of people* and I am so happy I picked it up and read it.

LAKE + WILL = HEARTWARMING COUPLE

image

I would just like to emphasize that this book did not really focus on this two lovebird’s relationship. It actually dealt more about their individual lives and the people around them.

I’m not saying that there is no romance here okay? The romance is good, very good actually because they were not too dependent on each other. They weren’t like typical YA or NA books that have the i-can’t-live-without-you drama and I hate that.

image

Their relationship was innocent really and it was kind of refreshing for me since most of the books I’ve read have tons of steamy scenes. This book doesn’t have a lot of those but it will still make you feel the connection between Lake and Will.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I love books that leave a mark.
Slammed is actually one of them.
The story is very simple but very meaningful.
This book didn’t need very difficult words. It didn’t need complicated scenarios or situations for the author to get her message across to her readers.
I learned a lot of things from this book.
It’s kind of funny because right now I feel that I am in Will’s position. Although the situation is different, the struggle between doing what is right and what you want is both eating us.
I wish these two get their happy ending on the next books. I just heard that there’s a third book so I’m looking forward to those two books!
Will I recommend this?
Of course I will!
A very good read.
I won’t be hesitating to read it again when I have time.
You might be wondering what Slammed means?
I was seriously thinking about someone being beaten up but as I was reading the book I found out that it was far off from what it meant.
Anyway, I won’t tell you much about Slam poetry. I’ll let you guys read so I won’t ruin it.
Let me end up this review with I think one of the lesson’s I’ve learned from this book.

On Dublin Street (On Dublin Street, #1) - Samantha Young Once the rain starts falling it’s hard to tell it to stop. I guess it stops in its own time.

REACTION AFTER READING THE BOOK

image
image

I could sum it up in one word.

CONFUSED.
F*CKING CONFUSED.
I feel like a total nut case as I was reading this. One minute I loved it so bad and then hating it as much as I love it the next and then loving it again. It was a bad vicious cycle.

THE GIST

Jocelyn (aka as Joss) lost her family when she was just 14 and because of that, she had a hard time opening herself to people. After she turned 18, she took everything and left America to live in Scotland.

In Edinburgh, she meets Ellie who she was going to be rooming in with. Coincidentally, Ellie was the half-sister of The Suit, a guy whom she shared a cab with, the guy who she was inexplicably attracted to.

Things get complicated between Jocelyn and Braden when he proposed an arrangement. No commitments, just sex. She had no problems with that at first but as time goes by, she gets attached to Braden and she felt uncomfortable with it. She felt that she was opening up herself just to be torn apart again.

Jocelyn was good at blocking people out. She convinced herself that no one was going to break the barriers she put up around herself. But she was wrong.

CHARACTERS

Jocelyn (aka JOSS)

I loved to strangle this girl most part of the book. I mean I knew what she went through was hard but I really wanted to slap her real hard on the face so that she’ll wake up to see what hope she has of being happy is staring at her right in the face. If you as Jocelyn what love is for her, she will probably tell you something like this.

image

She’s a pessimistic and self-absorbed person. She didn’t want to get close to anybody because she was afraid of what might happen to her afterwards if they left or if something happened to them. Despite the strong face she keeps on showing everyone, she clearly wasn’t that strong. She was a coward. I had a problem with this book mainly because of her. It was really upsetting reading about how she pushes everyone away because she didn’t want to deal with something. That is just wrong. I mean given her situation, I would understand at some point but locking yourself up because you don’t want to be hurt? That is bull! I hated that part.

image

I honestly wish she was more likeable. I mean even her therapist is having a hard time with her. Her stubbornness was not very endearing to me.

Braden

image

I seriously imagined Matt Bomer when Jocelyn was describing the man on the cab. I know Matt is not exactly really really tall but still, he knows how to make a suit so sexy. And Braden was just oh so sexy with or without the suit.

Going back, I would like to say that I liked his character better than Jocelyn. I mean it’s easy to love this guy because despite him having been hurt before, he was still willing to risk loving again. And he’s very smart. He is not the type of guy you could easily manipulate. He may be around a lot of women but when he falls in love, he loves whole-heartedly. Also, he is a very loving brother. He’s sweet although not too sweet when other people steps into his boundaries. He’s slightly possessive. Okay, scratch that, overly possessive and protective which is fine by me if you would ask.

Ellie

Ellie would have to be my favourite character on this book. Yeah I know. No matter how hot and sexy Braden is, Ellie would have to be who I connected the most too. She is Braden’s half-sister. She’s Jocelyn’s roommate in Dublin Street. Why do I love her so much? Because she’s strong even though she doesn’t look like it. She makes stupid decisions because she wanted to help other people sort their issues out *I’m sure you all have a clue who I’m talking about here*. But seriously, what she went through is hard too and she gotten past all that with a smile on her pretty face.

JOSS + BRADEN = SEXUAL TENSION TO THE HIGHEST LEVEL

These two definitely have chemistry... IN BED.^^,

image

image

I liked Braden really but Joss was making it hard for me to see the connection. The only time I see the connection is when they are on bed because that is the only time that Jocelyn really lets herself loose.

Most of the time, they argue like cats and dogs because both Joss and Braden and super stubborn. Joss likes her space and Braden likes to infiltrate her space so ending they argue a lot.

image

Honestly, I liked Ellie and Adam’s love story better. I won’t tell you much about it though. Read the book to find out. ^^,

QUOTABLE QUOTES

“I know you love me, Jocelyn, because there’s no fucking way I can be this much in love with you, and not have you feel the same way. It’s not possible.”

“I would say it was nice to meet you, but I was naked so… it wasn’t.”

“Braden, I don't want anything to happen between us."
He raised his eyebrow, clearly unconvinced.
"Tell that to your damp knickers, babe.”

“Sometimes words aren’t needed for you to know a change has come upon you.”

FINAL WORDS

I’m still confused whether rating this book a three was the right choice. I did enjoy it. But also a part of me was mostly pissed off by Joss.

The story was actually pretty good. The writing style of the customer was also good but the voice of the character I was reading was annoying. I would have preferred an alternating POV for this book. Why? Because it would have lessened the headache I got listening to Jocelyn deny herself happiness.

Oh! Did I mention it was lust-at-fist-sight? Yep. I wouldn’t say love because it wasn’t love she felt but lust. Hahaha. It’s weird but yeah. She wet herself just by sitting next to Braden. Hahaha.

I would have been very happy if Ellie was the main character of this book instead of Jocelyn. I would have liked to read Ellie’s POV because she was so sweet and spunky. She always has been willing to help Jocelyn but Jocelyn (the human wall) thinks she doesn’t need it.

One thing I liked about On Dublin Street is that the story didn’t just focus on one. It didn’t just focus on Jocelyn and Braden but also the other minor characters that were so much better to read about than Jocelyn.

Anyhow, I liked Ms. Young’s style in writing so I’m going to check her other books and hopefully there are no more irritating tortured female characters there.

I’ll leave you guys with a line I loved from this book.

“Sometimes the clouds weren't weightless. Sometimes their bellies got dark and full. It was life. It happened. It didn't mean it wasn't scary, or that I wasn't still afraid, but now I knew that as long as I was standing under it with Braden beside me when those clouds broke, I'd be alright. We'd get rained on together. Knowing Braden he'd have a big ass umbrela to shelter us from the worst of it. That there was an uncertain future I could handle.”

PRE-REVIEW:

I am so torn between loving and hating this book.
Half the time I was so loving it.

image

but also half of which I was so pissed off with Joss, the main female character because of her annoying stubborness!

image

Don't get me wrong, I liked the story. I liked how it ended but I just wish the main character was a little more... tolerable?

So right now I'll just be, collecting my thoughts about this and will post my review probably later.

Puppet Parade - Zeinab Alayan I could sum this book in two words: Dark and Magical.

image

The Puppet Parade will keep you at the edge of your seat. It is a beautifully written fairytale-like story of a girl who has never seen her face and a boy who had a weird facination with puppets.

I would have to say that this book is one of the most original books I have ever read so far. The characters, the setting, the development, it was nothing like I've ever read before. There was this certain feel to it that will keep you reading and asking for more.

I have always been a fan of fantasy books or anything that has sort of a magical feel to it and this one definitely has the right amount of that magical feel and also a little darkness to it. It wasn't your typical YA book. If I would recommend this book, I'll probably recommend it to everyone and not just YA readers because to me this book trancends age and time. Why? Because this book is not all about magic or talking and walking puppets, not just about these two characters finding the puppets but there is a deeper meaning to the story that I think even adults will enjoy.

It was wonderfully crafted to cater readers of all ages. It will take you to a place that you never knew existed because as I have mentioned to me this book was one of a kind. The unexpected twist, the childish but very descriptive way of writing and the powerful characters were enough to keep everyone reading for more.

The Puppet Parade is definitely one impressive debut. Ms. Alayan is definitely an author to watch out for.

*Thank you Ms. Alayan for giving me the opportunity to read and review your book.*
Charade - Nyrae Dawn We may have been brought together because of a stupid ass game. Or because we were both screwed up, or needed a change, but we got somewhere important and that’s the only thing that counts.

REACTION AFTER READING THE BOOK

image

image

This book just made me so happy. It dealt with so much more than just the relationship of the characters. It dealt with life, pain, moving on and most especially love.

THE GIST

Cheyenne was so not expecting to see her boyfriend of two years to be fooling around with some other girl behind her back. To make things worse, that wasn’t the first time it happened. Chey was willing to do whatever it takes to make sure Gregory knows that he made a big mistake cheating on her. And whatever it takes includes her paying for someone to pretend as her boyfriend to make her ex jealous as hell.

Colt may seem like he doesn’t have a problem in the world but really he does. His mother is sick and may be dying any time soon and there was nothing he could do about it. So when Chey proposed the deal, he accepts it.

Chey and Colt have their own struggles. They had their own ways of dealing with the hurt and pain. But what they both didn’t expect was the game they started for the wrong reasons ended up something that they both needed.

image

FIRST IMPRESSION

My first impression of the book was not really that good. I mean the synopsis was good but the cover just didn’t do well with me. And to make matters worse, as I was reading the book I found out that Colt don’t look anything like that guy on the cover. That guy looked more like Gregory and I hate that guy’s guts to hell! Colt’s tattoos were missing and he seemed very happy wherein the Colt that I knew from the book was not so much until the later part of the book. It didn’t make a good impression but it made a LASTING impression on me. This book was AWESOME!

CHARACTERS

CHEYENNE

This girl was easy to love. I mean seriously. She’s been through a lot growing up. Her thinking all the time that her mom didn’t love her, that was why she left but all the while there was something else that happened. I mean she may have not been deprived of material stuff but emotionally she lacked a lot. She wanted to always be in control so that people around couldn’t hurt her like what her mom did. The only thing I didn’t agree on with her was the fact that she tried to shut herself out from the people who really cared about her like her aunt and uncle. Another thing would be how she thinks getting revenge and paying someone to help her with her dirty work will solve anything. But other than that I loved Chey. She was a great character to me. Damaged yet she tried to fix herself up and help Colt in the process too.

COLTON

I just love that fucking name. It sounds so sexy. Colt. Colton. Sounds so masculine and firm and geezz my imagination is going wild. Anyways, Colt like Chey was very easy to love. His situation wasn’t though. It was hard to be in the position wherein you are caught between doing what you want and doing what your dying mother asks of you and doing what everything you can to make sure she lives. I have never been in that kind of situation but I am pretty sure it was hard. Colt was once again, one of my tattooed book boyfriends. He wasn’t perfect. He agreed to be a hired boyfriend to make payments for his mom’s needs. That is saying something about him. He’ll do anything for the people he loves and cares about which also means Chey is one LUCKY woman.

ADRIAN

I like this guy. Reading about him here, he seems to be the type that was high all the time but could still manage to be a friend when you need him the most. And I am happy to hear that this guy will also get his own story told, so I am so excited to read all about Adrian. I’m sure I’ll enjoy him as much as I enjoyed reading about Chey and Colt.

CHEY + COLT = CONSTRUCTIVE LOVE

It’s not every day that you meet that person who will make a difference in your life. Chey and Colt didn’t expect that they will fall for each other. They weren’t expecting that they were each other’s missing pieces and that they will build each other up. Chey and Colt were both damaged characters but they healed each other. They made each other better and I think that is what I loved the most about this book. I loved how it showed that love sometimes does move in mysterious ways. Who would have thought Chey and Colt will fall in love with each other? Who would have thought that they were each other’s missing puzzle pieces?

image

He doesn’t have to say with what. I know he means his mom. That’s what we have – we’re both damaged with baggage and somehow it works. I never thought something like this would work for me.

QUOTABLE QUOTES

"He loves you," she adds. "And I love you. You're everything I could have hoped for, for him."

"I thought this was a game," I reminded him.
"Not anymore and you know it. Everything else in my life is all f*cked up. This is the only thing that's real."

?"I'm fucking good at this boyfriend shit. Who would have thought?"

”You’re fucking cocky is what you are.”
“You have the worst mouth.”
“I thought we decided women like my mouth. You like my mouth don’t you?”

”It’s not because of how I feel right now or how well we move together. It’s about him. Us. I know that it’s no longer just an empty thought. It’s the truth.
I’m falling for Colt.”

HIGHLIGHTS
> Alternating POVs is yet again another plus for me. The effect of the story would not be as full blown if it weren’t for that type of writing. We get to see both sides of the story. We get to see what Colt and Chey are experiencing and it gets you to relate with the characters more.

> It was not all fun and games. I liked how balanced everything was. There was just the right amount of humour, life issues and sexy time. Hahaha. Yeah I loved reading about the steamy scenes. Hahaha.

> The emotions of the characters felt so real.

> Chemistry between the characters was smoking!

> I liked the secondary characters: Adrian, Colt’s mom, Chey’s aunt and uncle and yeah even the asshole Gregory and the Redhead.

FINAL WORDS

I wasn’t really expecting much when I picked up this book for the buddy reads. I really wasn’t because honestly, the cover wasn’t doing much justice to this book.

I am so happy I picked up this book and read it. The story was beautiful. It wasn’t perfect but it was so good that it actually made me cry towards the end. I don’t know what it is with authors and their intent to always make the readers cry towards the end. Can’t they put it on the early part of the book or the middle? Jeez! But anyway, I am so not complaining. I loved having a good cry over a good book.

I’d like to emphasize again how good this book is. I loved the story, the characters, the pacing and the ending. Damn! I loved that ending. Hahaha.

This will definitely not be my last Nyrae Dawn book. I am so going to hunt all of your books down and devour it like this one.

Will I recommend it?

Highly!

"I’m right where I belong and where she wanted me to be. Where I want to be... with you.”
The Sea of Tranquility - Katja Millay I read this book up to 35%.

funny gifs

I really wanted to finish it because a lot of my friends think its a pretty good book.
I wanted to cry because I feel that something is wrong with me for not liking the book.
Is there something wrong with me??? :(

I looked like this the whole time I was reading it.

image

I'll try to get back to it later. If I can.
It was just too slow for me.
The Edge of Never - J.A. Redmerski “I think if past lives are real then we have been lovers in every single one of them. I've known you for a short time, but I feel like I've known you forever.”

image
image
image

Love is indeed a special thing.
After reading The Edge of Never, I realized that love comes indeed when you least expect it.
If you’d ask me to describe this book in one word, I wouldn’t be able to.
I don’t think one word could grasp the beauty that I have found in this book.
It is very rare that you’d encounter such a book that would touch your heart in more ways than one.

The Edge of Never first follows Camryn Bennett as she takes a bus out to nowhere to think. A lot has happened to her and she feels that she needed a break from it all. So she sets off on her own, took a bus to Idaho with no clear plan on what she was going to do when she reached her destination.

On the way she meets Andrew Parrish. Andrew may seem like an outgoing and carefree guy at first glance. He was like the type of guy whom you’d think never faced a problem in his life. But behind all of that, he had some serious issues too just like Camryn.

Together they face the unknown as they head off on a road trip. A meaningless journey at first, but in the end turned out to be what both of them needed.

image

Gosh! Just writing this review brings tears to my eyes. No exaggeration on this one I tell you. This book was just amazingly beautiful. It was so perfect to me! I was so DAMN PERFECT!

I finished this book last Sunday night. Towards the end, I was so happy that things were going the way I wanted it to be and all of a sudden BOOOOOOMMMM everything that I hoped for to happen just started crumbling down. This shit happened during the last few pages and I started to cry and cry until my mom woke up and this is exactly how our conversation went:

image

I just couldn’t explain to her why I was crying. She left me to my misery and went to bed. I cried some more before I picked up where I left off and imagine my surprise! I was like “Holy SHIT! That was the BEST ENDING EVER!” I could not believe this story ended the way it did. It was just the perfect ending to the perfect story.

image
image

I would also like to say how much I love Camryn and Andrew. Yeah you got it right Camryn and Andrew. Not just Andrew. But of course, Andrew will always have my body, soul and everything else my heart! ^^, But yeah I do love them both. They were complex, flawed and very real characters. You might run into one Camryn or Andrew on one of your bus rides who knows? I would DEFINITELY sit beside an Andrew when I see one. Hahaha. Just kidding. But I do hope I run into one someday. ^^,
image

I liked Camryn. She was a little bitter and uptight. But who could blame her right? After all the shit that happened to her life she has the right to be bitter. I could relate to her more than I have ever been with any book character. I could feel her pain because I was there in her position before. I felt that kind of pain. I felt that kind of loneliness and emptiness. I wish I could go on a road trip like her for a while just to take my mind off some things but I couldn’t. Also, there is this part of her that does everything that she is told because it is what is expected of her. I could relate to that too. I am pretty hopeful that someday, someone would also make me feel alive. Someone who would make me feel like there is so much more to life than this. I want my own ANDREW!!! ^^, Before I move on to Andrew, I have to share with you guys a picture of how I imagined Camryn looks like:
image
*hot isn’t she? :p*

Now, here’s the LOVE OF MY LIFE! ANDREW! Yes, you got it right? I have another book boyfriend so suck it up! Hehehe. But seriously this guy has been amazing! I just don’t know where to start with this guy. From the moment I read about his green eyes and his insane love for music, he already got me. HEAD OVER HEELS! Mind you that was just the beginning! There was more. Oh my GOODNESS! That dimpled smile. That sexy laidback aura that he has. That rock hard abs. That f*cking tattoo that I want to see for real! OH GOD TAKE ME NOW!!! But all joking aside, this guy is really amazing. He was a sensitive soul that does not want to burden anyone else around him. He grew up hiding how he feels because that was what their father told them. There was so more to this guy than the gorgeous dimpled face, the abs and that Ooohhh sooo Gooooodd ***** I’ll leave something for you guys to imagine. So in my eyes, Andrew should look about somewhat like this guy down here:
image
*Makes me all wet hyped already looking at him! Isn’t he just gorgeous?!*
OH AND BY THE WAY HE’S ALSO:
image

CAMRYN + ANDREW = SEXY TRUE LOVE

These two kids are so wild it was just crazy! I couldn’t even concentrate on what I was reading because of all that talk and actions and all that crazy shit that I so love! JEEEZZZ! If you guys are thinking that this is sort of an innocent book, then you are in for a surprise!
They had a little of this:
image
AND MORE OF THIS:
image
image

These two can’t keep their hands off each other after the uhhhmm.. Well I don’t want to give out spoilers. Hahaha.
I’m sure you guys saw the pictures. This book has tons of mature contents that may not be for everyone especially teens younger than 17 so just a caution. 

Okay so this would be the last leg of my review because apparently it’s getting way too long already and I have to sleep because I have work tomorrow. Anyways, I just want to share with you guys a lovely song from One Republic. It’s called Stop and Stare. I’ll just share the first stanza so if ever you’re interested in hearing it, just youtube it. Here is goes:

This town is colder now, I think it's sick of us
It's time to make our move, I'm shakin' off the rust
I've got my heart set on anywhere but here
I'm staring down myself, counting up the years
Steady hands, just take the wheel...
And every glance is killing me
Time to make one last appeal for the life I lead

FINAL WORDS
Camryn and Andrew both have struggles and fears.
But they were able to both overcome it because they had each other.
Sometimes, what you really need is someone who will be there to hold your hand when you feel alone, to hug you and tell you everything is alright.
This story inspired me.
It made me believe that someday I’m going to meet that guy. That someone out there is waiting for me too.
Maybe on one of the buses I’ll be riding, he’ll be there, with loud music blaring on his ears, waiting for me.
Shadows - Jennifer L. Armentrout “Seriously though, I want this – I want you … More than I’ve ever wanted anything.”

image

Okay! I originally rated this book a 3. Yeah, I know it’s crazy but I seriously felt a little short on this book. So what I did? I reread it. Just like I did with Daimon. I reread it and guess what? I had to change my rating. It was great but not as great as Obsidian unfortunately.

THE GIST

In Obsidian, we meet Daemon Black who was hot as hell but could be a jackass at times. All we know that aside from Dee, he also has another sibling, a brother. His name was Dawson. It wasn’t elaborated on what happened to him but in Shadows, you get to know more about him and what happened to him.

Dawson was the more of the nice brother here. He was warm and friendly but get on his bad side, he’ll be just as intense as Daemon. One thing was for sure, he shared his brother’s bad temper.

Anyways, Shadows focused more on how tightly-knitted Daemon, Dawson and Dee are and of course the other Luxens too. Their family is everything to them. But more importantly, we find out the reason why Dawson disappeared; it was because of a girl named Bethany.

It was a love that was forbidden from the very start. Would Dawson and Bethany be able to overcome all the hindrances for them to be together?

FIRST IMPRESSION

I seriously loved this series and the author. The author has an imagination unlike any other. Who would have known aliens could be so hot right? Anyway, okay so the reason why I picked this up was of course because of Daemon DAEMON ALONE and Katy. They were two wonderfully made characters that complement each other in a weird way. They argued a lot but I still feel their chemistry and all that. Enough of Daemon even though I still want to talk about him. When I heard this book was going to be about Daemon’s brother Dawson, I was so excited to read it. I wanted to know what happened to the lost brother.

CHARACTERS

Dawson

Daemon and Dawson maybe twins but they’re different from each other like night and day. I won’t dwell more on Daemon because you’ll definitely hear a lot of swooning from me if I do so let’s talk about Dawson. I like Dawson. He was the nice guy you could count on. He was the nicer brother. He was Dee’s favorite brother. Dawson is the exact opposite of Daemon. Dawson is the tamer version. And seriously, he is quite a lover. He fights for what he believes is right and he doesn’t care about anything else. I mean he does care but basically he wants to do the things that will make him happy. And being with Bethany makes him happy.

Bethany

Bethany was nice. I mean she was okay. I liked Katy more though. Bethany was a nice girl and she was very accepting. Too accepting for my taste but I get her. Dawson’s hot. I mean if I meet an alien and that alien turns out to be as hot as Daemon or Dawson I don’t think I would have minded either. Sick? Maybe but I’m just being realistic here. I would have been as enthralled as Bethany about feeling their light or seeing them glow and all that. She wasn’t my favorite but I definitely liked her from the very start.

Daemon

You guys know how much I love Daemon right? *you guys would see that on my name as well. Hehehe* But this book didn’t really focus much on him but still it made me understand him more about why he acted like a f*cking jerk in Obsidian. I liked that he can get all soft with Dawson even when he doesn’t want to. Let me share a conversation between them.

Daemon stomped past them, bumping into his brother's shoulder. "You make my head hurt", he said, scowling. "And you make me all warm and fuzzy inside".

DAWSON + BETHANY = You and Me Against the World

It was insta-love. And I hate insta-love! If I could avoid books like it like plague I will. Good thing about this book was that it actually works. One thing I also noticed was that, these two kiddies actually were like Romeo and Juliet. It was tragic really. I mean I don’t really know what happened to them. It was still a blank for me but for this novella specifically, it ended tragically just like Romeo and Juliet’s story. Their relationship was meant to end the moment it started but they didn’t care. It was kind of a “with-you-beside-me-i-don’t-care-if-the-world-ended” kind of relationship. I’ll usually roll my eyes with that kind of thing but I liked it. I think it worked for Dawson and Bethany’s case.

HIGHLIGHTS

> It gave us more insight on what happened before Obsidian because let’s face it, we all have tons of questions and most of the missing pieces were answered her including why Daemon was so overprotective with Dee and all that.

QUOTABLE QUOTES

“Love of sugar had to mean true love. It just had to.”

“I can’t believe you’re allowing him to do this. Next thing we know, you’ll be dating a human.”
Daemon busted out laughing. “Yeah, not going to happen.”

“Oh, for the love of baby humans everywhere, you’re an idiot.”

FINAL WORDS:

Okay so final words will have to be that this book left me sad. It left me super sad which is why I originally rated it a 3. I wanted Dawson and Bethany to have their happily ever after but then again this is a series so who knows what will happen in the next books right? So I am wishing and hoping and praying that Ms. Armentrout will do something about these star-crossed lovers. Now we don’t have only one, we have two!

Good Heavens! What will we do?

After I read all my group and buddy reads I’ll start with Onyx and hope I see Dawson there somewhere and Bethany of course. I am not convinced he’s DEAD! Jesus! Those DOD people need some serious spanking! Anyhow, I enjoyed it. Still loved Ms. Armentrout’s writing and hoping for more Luxen’s to come.
Fall Guy (Youngblood, #1) - Liz Reinhardt *WARNING: This review might be more focused on HOT, STEAMY, DROOL-WORTHY Winch (if not the whole the review).

image

Evan Lennox met Winchester Youngblood just outside the courtroom on the day when they will both get sentenced for their wrong doings.
*Evan’s case was due to Unintentional Arson and Trespassing (which was really because of a very stupid reason) and Winch was because of drunk driving.*
They both get sentenced with community service.
Just when Evan though he would meet the hot blue-eyed guy again, she meets him at the site of her first community service assignment.
Evan was attracted to the hot-cold mysterious Winch.
No matter how hard she tried, she can’t get him out of his head. (But who wouldn’t? seriously?)
She made tons of assumptions as to why Winch doesn’t seem interested but nothing. She just couldn’t get him.
But what Evan doesn’t know was Winch actually was feeling the same way although there are certain factors in Winch’s life that is making him hold back.
The closer they get to each other, the more they couldn’t stay away from each other.
Slowly, the wall that Winch built around himself was slowly crumbling down. Evan wanted to know what it was that was holding Winch back.
When Winch finally laid all his cards on the table, Evan understood.
He was the fall guy. He was always the backup guy of their family. She knew she would never be the one he chooses.
But then again, Winch proved her wrong.

I seriously went BANANAS over this book!

image

I have read tons of books regarding forbidden love, but it was nothing like this. It was a rollercoaster of emotion and I loved every minute of it.

image

I want (if I could) personally hug and kiss Liz Reinhardt for making such a wonderful book. It literally took my breath away too much I couldn’t count it anymore.

Unlike The Secret of Ella and Micha (which I also love to death) the story of this book was a little more complicated. It dealt with choices. It dealt with choosing what you have to do, what you are expected and what you want to do. Will you choose what you want over your family? Will you choose the hard path but will make you happy or choose the easier path even though you know it will make you miserable?

Honestly, I didn’t really care much about Evan. It was a good thing that the POVs were alternating because if not I wouldn’t have finished this book. I liked Evan but there was a point that I felt that she has no sense of self-preservation. She was the go-getter type of girl. If she wants it, she goes and gets it even if eventually she’ll get hurt. But that was one of the things I admired about her. It’s kind of ironic though. The bad thing I noticed about her is the same thing I liked.

I want to dwell more on Winch! (my dream guy!)
Hot, gorgeous and extremely enticing DELICIOUS, EDIBLE, SEDUCTIVE, TEMPTING Winch!
I am seriously addicted to him.
I kind of imagined he would look somewhat like this guy but with that sexy Hungarian accent:
image

Totally drool-worthy right?

image

Okay he’s drool-worthy totally the kind of guy I’d love to bang me so what next? He’s a lot more than just a pretty face. He was the type of guy you could really count on. I mean he wouldn’t be his family’s fall guy if he wasn’t right? This guy gave up on a lot of things for his family. He gave up half of his life for them who never gave a shit about him. He was the fix guy. He fixes his stupid older brother Remy’s screw-ups which I think was just really really wrong. I hated them for that. I was absolutely furious with his family all throughout the book. They were crappy parents.

image

I was SO ANGRY! They were supposed to let Remy fix his own issues. He made some very STUPID mistakes and he should be the one to pay for it, not anyone else. That family was just seriously fucked up. I WANTED TO PUNCH SOMEONE IN THE FACE!

image

EVAN + WINCH= HOT, SWEATY, DRAMATIC LOVIN’

I was surprised on how graphic all those hot scenes were and I enjoyed devoured every minute of it. There was just so much passion between the two of them.

There were a lot of sexy time but when the serious stuff was up, it was SERIOUSLY emotional. Even when they were doing their thing, you’ll see that there was still drama going on in their heads. It was just amazing. I loved hearing the alternating POV’s of these two but I mostly like hearing WINCH. Hey, it’s not being biased but I loved his POV because you’ll get to hear him as who he really is behind all that façade that he has on.

The ending was bitter sweet for me but I wouldn’t have changed it for the world. It was the perfect ending for me. Winch made the right decision with the help of Evan of course. I will end this review with a little spoiler. It is in Winch’s POV and it really touched me in so many ways it almost made me cry. I’ll put it in spoiler so it’s up to you guys if you’ll want to read it.

“I’ll spend the rest of my life falling as far and deep and hard as my heart will let me go in love with this perfect, crazy girl who taught me to let go and hold on. I know in that minute I’ll be Evan’s fall guy until the day I die, and my future, for the first time in my life, is an always I can’t wait to fall into.”

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS! *for readers of New Adult books*

Dark Seraphine - KaSonndra Leigh First off, I’d like to thank Ms. KaSonndra Leigh for the copy of this book in return for an honest review (which is what I am going to do)

REACTION AFTER READING THE BOOK:

I got that crazy smile on my face when I finished reading this book.
Why the crazy smile?
But this book drove me nuts! (in a good way)

THE GIST

Dark Seraphine follows the Point-of-View of Caleb Wood. Ever since he was a kid, he knew he was different. He could see people appearing out of thin air. He could talk to them, hear them. He calls them “Walkers”.

One day, one of the Walkers started talking and stalking him. Her name was Gia. Caleb finds himself attracted to Gia and he feels that she was feeling the same towards him but she was starting to avoid him. A bunch of other weird things also started happening and Caleb has this thought that it might be related to Gia. But what he didn’t know was that it wasn’t just about Gia but something even bigger than he could have imagined.

FIRST IMPRESSION

If I could sum it up to one word, it would be EXCITED. I honestly didn’t expect Ms. Leigh to request me to read this book but I am glad she did. When I read her email this was how I would have looked like:

(if I was a sparkly multicolored pony but you get my point right? The excited look in the pony’s eyes? Yeah that’s what I was referring to. Hehehe.)

They synopsis on GR is actually very appealing to me. It’s something I would definitely be reading whether Ms. Leigh gave me the copy or not I would have still read it. (But I am thankful she gave me the chance to read it for free. I am eternally grateful!)

CHARACTERS

CALEB

I have to start with Caleb. I like his POV. He was definitely just like a typical high school guy. He was a little immature (but who wasn’t in high school right?) and cocky. I liked how sometimes he could be really goofy one minute and then becomes really serious the next. It only means that he isn’t all fun and games. The good thing with Caleb was he wasn’t like all other guys in YA books, he wasn’t all perfect and hot and all, he was what real guys at high school should be. He makes mistakes and make up for them.

GIA

I had a hard time liking her to tell you honestly. She was too mysterious for my liking but after awhile I realized why she had to be that way. At first I didn’t like her because she stalks Caleb and when Caleb developed feelings for her, she pushed him away. I was really irritated but then as the story goes you get to know why she acted the way she did. Also, I like her being this punk girl. She wasn’t the typical “hot-girly-type” of girl. She was kickass in a way. Totally cool!

CALEB + GIA = PUSH AND PULL RELATIONSHIP

From the very beginning I knew it was going to be CALEB and GIA and not ERICA. There was chemistry no doubt but there had been a time that I was a little irritated that GIA had to push CALEB away. I was ready to smack her in the head and tell her to cut her crap and just tell CALEB why she can’t so the poor guy would understand what was happening. But all in all, I liked it. Not loved it entirely though.

HIGHLIGHTS

> I liked the POV of Caleb. It was honest and real. I found it very authentic even though we all know Ms. Leigh is a girl.

> The suspense was really nerve-wrecking! Ms. Leigh really knows how to put her readers on the edge.

> The concept was new. I seriously didn’t think that Gia and her people would be what they were. I wouldn’t have ever imagined it. Very creative.

> The characters were very genuine especially Caleb. Gia? Not really a big fan of her. I liked Erica (the love struck girl).

QUOTABLE QUOTES:

“I’ve waited my entire life for this moment. Ever since I was a little girl, I understood that I was meant for something more. Something rare. I also knew that if I found it, then my old life would never be the same again. There are two parts to a person’s soul; the light and the dark. Without one the other can’t exist.”

FINAL WORDS:

Again, I am eternally grateful for the opportunity that I had reading this book. It was just great! I enjoyed every minute of it. There were times that it was too slow for me but as you read it more, it gradually increases its pace. I don’t know why but I felt there were some things that should have not been included anymore but then again maybe it would feel incomplete if those scenes were going to be removed.

Anyhow, this book was just awesome. I would recommend it for fans of the YA-paranormal genre. It has humor, suspense, romance and mystery. It will keep you reading until the very last page. The ending was totally unexpected. I never would have guessed that it was that person who was the Dark Seraphine.

This is my first KaSonndra Leigh book and would definitely not be the last.
Great read!

4 stars!

PRE-REVIEW:

Okay so I had mixed thoughts about this one.
I liked the whole concept but for those who have been reading my reviews I always emphasize that I mostly like books that have a fast pace.
This book was not one of them but hell I enjoyed it.
